If you are visiting the calendar to see what's going on in Colorado, just use the month navigation bar at the top of the calendar to display each month. Click on an individual event to see the details. When you click on an event listing, one of several things may happen, depending on how the group set up their event link.
- Your browser may be directed to the group's web site, replacing the calendar screen
- Your browser may open a new window with the group's web site
- A pop-up window may open with details about the event and web or email links for more information
If you are a member of one of the groups using the calendar and want to submit an event to the Community Calendar, contact your group leaders and ask how to add your event.
If you are not affiliated with any of the groups and would like to list an event, please submit an event request and the calendar administrators will work with you to get your event on the calendar.
If you are the Calendar Representative for your group, scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click the "Login" link at the bottom right of the page. When you have logged in, click the "ColoradoBDSM" calendar link to bring up the calendar.
To add an event, click the day of the month to bring up the new event page. If there are events currently on that date, you will also get a list of those events. (Note: You can only change events that were added under your account.)
Most of the fields on the event form are pretty self explanatory. Here are some specific notes.
- Keep your event text short... four lines maximum. The event text should simply contain the name of your event. Any other details should be put in a pop-up window or on your website.
Some specific no-no's:
- DO NOT put URLs (web site addresses) in the event text! URLs are usually fairly long and do not "wrap", so they make the event listing very wide and throw the calendar formatting off.
- DO NOT put directions, instructions, email addresses, extended group descriptions, or other information in the event text!
- DO NOT put event times and detailed schedules in the event text!
- DO NOT put long discussion topics in the event text!
- Fill in the start and end time fields whenever possible. This will allow the calendar to stack multiple events on the same day in the right order.
- Be sure to select your group from the "Category" list so that your event is tagged with your group name and is displayed in your color scheme.
- There are several ways to set up links from events back to your web site.
- You can put a simple URL in the field labeled "Enter a URL, or text for a popup window". This will link to your site, taking over the full browser window, when a visitor clicks the event.
- You can put text, including HTML formatting and URL and email links, in the field labeled "Enter a URL, or text for a popup window". This will cause a pop-up window to be displayed with your text when a visitor clicks the event.
- You can put a link to your event in the field labeled "Modify the text for this event". This will allow you to open a new browser window to your web site.
- The "Modify the text for this event" field does allow use of HTML formatting. Please limit use of HTML in this field to the following:
- Setting your event text to bold if your color scheme makes standard text too hard to read
- Adding a link to your web site that opens in a new browser window
- In fairness to all groups, please do not use other formatting such as font type or size, all caps, underlines, italics, colors, or other "special effects" to make your events stand out more. We would like to present a simple, consistent appearance for all event listings.
- The Calendar Administrators reserve the right to alter calendar entries that do not follow the guidelines above.
Here is a page of sample formats for event listings as described above. You can copy and past these examples as templates for adding your events.
